A dance piece for four dancers and twelve musicians.
After a summer in the mountains and having walked in the footsteps of my childhood, I feel the fear of losing the familiar. How does the fear of broken belonging, ruined nature and a collective complex shape our idea of the future.
Movement patterns – influenced by the landscapes around four top points in the mountains I regard as home – are abstracted and minimalised, then used as a base for composition.

About:

NO:

Gjennom begrepet nostalgia ser eg framtida i frå fortida. I 1977 beskreiv forfattar Fred Davies i boka Nostalgia, Identity and the Current Nostalgia Wave begrepet som: “Engendering a coherent and continous identity as we remind ourself in the presence of who we were in the past”.

ENG:After a summer in the mountains and having walked in the footsteps of my childhood, I feel the fear of losing the familiar. How does the fear of broken belonging, ruined nature and a collective complex shape our idea of the future.

Nostalgia was originally a medical diagnosis; homesick, coined by the Swiss medical student Johannes Hofer in 1678. The condition is said to have originally been observed among young men from narrow valleys in Switzerland who were sent off to war on the open plains of Germany. Nostalgia was considered fatal if left untreated. One of the ways to cure the soldiers was to send them home.

Through the concept of nostalgia, I see the future from the past. In 1977, author Fred Davies described the concept in his book Nostalgia, Identity and the Current Nostalgia Wave as: "Engendering a coherent and continous identity as we remind ourselves in the presence of who we were in the past". Nostalgia becomes a way of maintaining truths. Memory is knowledge perceived through desire and initiated through reconstruction. Remembering is an act where past events are given specific meaning. Remembering creates truths. Memory shapes an interaction between past and present. Memory functions as a link to the future in the constant present.

What happens when the reality that lies in memory is threatened by plans for fatal destructions of nature initiated by our collective oil nation complex?

The performance is an ode against the destruction of what is regarded as home due to wind power development.

Logica is a commission from Firda Vidaregåande Skule for the schools 100 year anniversary celebration.
Duration: 1h 25 mins

	LOGICA - RHETORICA - METAPHYSICA:
Why do we learn what we do? And who decides this?

In Ludvig Holberg's famous work, Erasmus Montanus, the main character Rasmus Berg comes to visit his home village after studying in the big city. The knowledge he has absorbed creates a divide between him and his fellow villagers. Berg's knowledge is the starting point for misunderstandings and satire, which creates the dramaturgical line of the play. Can a person become too knowledgeable for one's own good? In Logica we address this and other questions in the anniversary performance that marks 100 years of Firda Upper Secondary School. Here we look at how theatre and performing arts have criticised and celebrated the educational institution, the school system and teaching throughout the ages.
The performance emphasises and challenges ideas about logic and who gets to write history. Together, this becomes a love letter to the teaching profession and local forces - as well as a wonderment about what awaits around the next bend: The future is here now!
“Eg staar med hatt i hand / framfor mitt kjære lærarstand / som trutt lyt leida meg, den dryge kunnskapsveg.
Dei pryler paa meg hardt / og fram eg skrid med sniglefart / og fyl den sterke hand / som ber mitt muleband.
Og vil eg ikkje gaa / so spring dei bak og jagar paa. / Og jammen lyt eg til/ kor lite so eg vil.
So larkar eg i veg / og mulebandet fører meg igjennom øydeland. / Skje takk mitt lærarstand.”
Excerpt from the school paper “Firdaljos”, dated 1926.

The Greek term kalokagathia describes the connection between moral greatness and
the beautiful body – an idea that has accompanied us from antiquity to present
day.
Inspired
by this historical term, the dance performance Kalokagathia is a collection
of embodied, glamorous tales about the demi-gods of our time. Danced fantasy
driven images – tableau vivants – of
the ideals that shaped and shape us in the way we present our bodies in
society. The ambition is to comment on how we are followers of those who
present themselves or are given the role as superior, eminent, influential and
powerful. It sheds light on who has written the story of how we understand success and virtuosity,
and how we give bodies value.

The dance project merges musical
acts, song, story-telling and choreography as it narrates the meaning of the
ideal through notions of imitation: How
do we imitate and mirror the people we look up to, and why do we make these
body-images a part of our own self? It questions the effect of how popular
culture choreographs its followers by presenting bodies of success as
emancipating and edifying, yet cruel, toxic and unattainable. In the process, the group of
performers creates movement while reminiscing personal memories of teenage
idols. Jonas Øren uses this as choreographic matter and dissects it with the
ambition to create new performative modes of success – deconstructing and
challenging the well-known. The ambition is for the movement and linguistic
patterns to become choreographic and musical reference points in various
well-known choreographic scenarios
The group are entangled in a
glamorous stage room that crosses scenography and costume driven by the desire
to self-create. It is relevant to connect ideas related to body, gender and
sexuality with the speculative, consumer oriented objectification and commercial
strategies of today: Choreography as self-creation fueled by ideas about
grandeur and glamour, and at the same time connected to resistance and the need
to wear armour and camouflage.
